When visiting our gallaries, you may have questions about the different editions of Limited Edition Thomas Kinkade artwork. Each Limited Edition piece is crafted to last for generations. The Thomas Kinkade Art Editions

As you browse our Limited Edition collections, you may be curious about what each edition indicator means. What exactly is an AP edition painting? How will that new Estate Edition or Gallery Proof add to your collection? Below are the different art edition designations.

  • A/N – Atelier National
  • E/E – Estate Edition
  • E/P – Examination Proof
  • G/P – Gallery Proof
  • H/E – Hometown Edition

Art Editions – A/P to M/E

A/P indicates an Artist Proof edition. Each small edition Artist Proof Canvas is individually hand-highlighted. The A/P designation is applied during the numbering process.

A/N indicates an Atelier National edition. Each piece in this edition is hand-highlighted and numbered. The A/N designation is then applied.

E/E designates an Estate Edition piece. This extremely limited edition involves a unique texturing process to add depth to the artwork. A Master Highlighter then adds additional highlighting. A special hand sketched Remarque is then applied to the verso side of the canvas. The letters E/E are added during the numbering process to indicate the mastery of the Estate Edition Process.

E/P stands for Examination Proof. This special Limited Edition Canvas edition is produced to give collectors like you the chance to preview select new releases. The small edition Examination Proof canvases are each individually hand-highlighted. The E/P designation is added during the numbering process.

G/P designation indicates a Gallery Proof canvas. Each piece is individually hand-highlighted. A unique gold foil Remarque stamped onto the image distinguishes the artwork of this edition. The G/P designation is applied during the numbering process.

An H/E, or Hometown Edition, is hand-highlighted and hand-numbered. Each Hometown Edition canvas will have both the letters H/E and city and state codes in the print number. These Limited Edition pieces are distributed to the specific city identified in the number.

I/P indicates an International Proof. These are Limited Edition pieces to be distributed outside of the United States. Each is individually hand-highlighted and can be distinguished by a gold foil stamp on the front of the canvas. The letters I/P are added during the numbering process as well.

M/E designates a Master Edition Limited Edition Canvas. Each piece in this edition has been uniquely detailed. Thomas Kinkade extensively hand-highlighted each of these paintings. A highly detailed Remarque was hand sketched on the verso side of the canvas by the master painter. The artist’s thumbprint and Master Edition Seal is located on the back of the canvas indicating exclusivity and true personal touch. Authentic Master Edition pieces have been hand-signed in metallic ink by Thomas Kinkade. The letters M/E are added during the numbering process.

An O/R, or Original, means Thomas Kinkade, the Estate of Thomas Kinkade, the Kinkade Family Trust, Thomas Kinkade Studios, LLC and / or one or more of their assignees owns the original artwork copyright for this piece. This copyright extends to all preparatory studies, sketches, layouts, design work, including character design and architectural design, color schemes, final rendering and brushwork by Thomas Kinkade and / or any apprentices, assistants, designers and graphic artists involved with the creation of the artwork. The original used in printing these Limited Edition prints has been retained for archival purposes.

P/P designates a very small edition Publisher Proof. This edition is only available at the discretion of the Publisher. Each piece is hand-highlighted and numbered. The PP designation occurs during the numbering process.

Art Editions – O/R to S/P

R/E, or Renaissance Edition pieces each feature uniquely textured brushstroke processes and the work of a master highlighter. Those released prior to April 6, 2012, involve a unique process recreating the brushwork of the artist. A Master Highlighter finished each piece. A special Remarque is applied to the verso side of the canvas. The artist has then hand-signed the front of the canvas, and a foil-stamped silver Renaissance Edition seal has been applied to the back of the painting. Each Renaissance Edition is then designated by the letters R/E during the numbering process. Renaissance

Edition pieces released after April 6, 2012, are created with a textured brushstroke process. A Master Highlighter enhances the piece with additional highlights. A special Remarque is applied to the verso side of the canvas. Lastly, a foil-stamped silver Renaissance Edition seal is applied to the back of the canvas. The letters R/E designation is applied during the numbering process.

SE/AP or Serigraph Artist Proof indicates that a serigraphs artist has painstakingly reproduced an original piece of art by the serigraphy print-making technique. Colors are carefully added one at a time by hand to capture finite details and the original hue and vibrancy of the original piece. These hand created reproductions are exact. Each small edition Serigraph Artist Proof is then highlighted by hand. The letters A/P during are applied the numbering process.

SE/SN or Serigraph Standard Number indicates that a serigraphs artist has painstakingly reproduced an original piece of art by the serigraphy print-making technique. Colors are carefully added one at a time by hand to capture finite details and the original hue and vibrancy of the original piece. These hand created reproductions are exact.. The Standard Numbered Canvas edition piece is then individually hand-highlighted and numbered with the S/N designation during the numbering process.

S/N indicates Standard Numbered. This means this Limited Edition canvas has been individually hand-highlighted and numbered. The S/N designation is applied during the numbering process.

S/P or Studio Proof Limited Editions can differ depending on release date. Images released prior to April 6, 2012, are created with a textured brushstroke process that recreates the artist’s actual brushwork. A Master Highlighter then finishes and hand sketches an original and identifying Remarque on the verso side of the canvas. The artist then places final highlights himself, and hand signed the front of the canvas in metallic ink. Lastly, a foil stamped gold Studio Proof seal is applied to the verso side. S/P is applied during the numbering process to designate the piece as a Studio Proof.

Images released after April 6, 2012, are a special reserve edition. Each is created with a unique textured brushstroke process. A Master Highlighter then enhances the image with additional highlights and hand sketches an original and identifying Remarque on the verso side of the canvas. Lastly, a foil-stamped gold Studio Proof seal is applied to the back of the canvas. S/P is added during the numbering process to designate the piece a Studio Proof, and a metallic authorized signature is applied to the front of the canvas.
